    I don't think I knew any children growing up who didn't receive some form of corporal punishment, at least occasionally.
    At our elementary school, the principal was permitted to spank students, although this happened only rarely, and, to my knowledge, only to boys; although there was no explicit rule exempting girls from this kind of punishment that I knew of.  Usually, kids who acted up got a note to take home for their parent to sign; and likelier than not, a spanking would soon follow.
    In our home, both our parents spanked, and I feared this punishment equally from both of them.  Our father spanked us over clothing, while our mother spanked us on our bare bottoms.

    I'm sorry to admit this, but I teased her about it a little the next day.  At first she denied it, but then she admitted she'd been spanked.  I actually just wanted to learn more about why she's been spanked, etc.  But I went about it in an undiplomatic way and she didn't tell me anything else except what she knew I already knew.  less
