I think the use of spanking at school is a very complicated subject and it is one that merits many different opinions. I think as a general rule, the decreasing use of spanking at schools across the country as a disciplinary tool is in alignment with the decreasing use of spanking in general by parents as well. As Mary Janine points out, there are many reasons for this but some of these reasons are subjective and do not necessarily justify the reduction.
    Personally I think the use of spanking can be very effective at schools within the right policy and procedures. I support its use primarily at the elementary level and to a lesser degree at middle school but I do not think its appropriate or effective discipline for High School students. Here in Arizona the use of spanking in schools is still legal but its use or lack thereof varies from school to school and district to district.

    For most minor offenses it was administered in front of the classroom but for more serious misbehavior, she escorted you to the supply closet off the front of the classroom where it was then common to have your pants lowered for a real paddling/spanking!

    Not sure if she was a "spanko" but my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Kaiser, certainly used spanking for almost every offense, minor or major.

One such Teacher was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Joseph and on one very memorable occasion, I was summoned to the front of the class and found myself over her knee, bottom bared, and getting a spanking with her wooden ruler. It was not something I wanted repeated!

    My one and only Principal Paddling in elementary school occurred in 5th grade and was a result of me shooting rubber bands in class and accidently hitting a girl in my class in the eye. Our Principal at the time, Mrs. Davidson, had quite a reputation for paddling soundly and I sure found out how true that was that day.
