1 - Nazism. Nationalsozialismus. National Socialist Worker's Party. Before we entered WW2, German worker's halls were very popular and many American-Germans thought highly of Hitler. After we entered the war, public opinion turned against both.
2 - McCarthyism and the "Red Scare".
Plus, the American education system doesn't really teach political or economic philosophies. Let alone how the two systems interact. So when you start combining the two, Americans get more confused and retreat to "it's either 100% good, or 100% bad" thinking.
You know Walt being confused is a way of life for me and I suspect that's true for others too. Why? Because everyone lies all the time for no reason or any reason. No one will talk straight. No one will "tell it like it is" without coloring it or conflating it or pretzelizing it so we will be on "their" side and not the side of "the other" which is always evil bad terrible awful miserable. Lying is part of it to be sure. Honesty and honor are MIA from day one. It's how we navigate through life. Of course that is just my impression. I cannot speak for others. So after awhile you just say "screw it" and stop caring. I may be almost there. I can't be sure but it's looking a lot more logical to me to just pull back watch and observe. On the other hand this may be just be another of the bazillion times I get disgusted and need a break. I mean dumb don never changes. His message never changes. His supporters never change. Every day is always the same as the day before. The same INANE rationalizations justifications for evil being what's in style and anyone who is anyone hops on board the dumb don train. SIGH. Do you know what he spent some of his big money on? He paid prisons to get the convicts to work on the phones calling people to get them to vote for him.
That's fair. Exploit prisons and get elected without even trying. He's Number 2 next to Bernie. You know that? Do you know much about him? I know a lot. Do you want to hear? I am never ashamed about anything I believe Sharon. You may look askance or look down on me. It matters not to me. What matters is being true to myself. Above all to thine own self be true.
