    They show to the creative-original person that he's succeeding at whatever he's doing. Copycats appear as soon as things start getting good.

    "No man is an island." Everything you know, every skill you have, you got from somebody else. You did not invent the language you speak, you did not teach yourself social skills. If you play music you play a system invented by Christians to glorify their God. You had nothing to do with developing the machine on which you typed this post.

    Now tell me about these "copycatters" of which you speak.

    BTW, architects, comedians, fashion designers, and magicians make no attempt to patent their inventions, and they seem to be doing just fine.
