What unexpected colors have you seen in nature? If you saw blood-red snow wouldn't you think it was blood and something alive had been killed/murdered? Which proves you can't tell a book by its cover or a person's worth by his/her packaging.
Oooh is that dangerous though? Chlamydomonas sounds like it might be dangerous! We get blue-green algae here and I know that's dangerous! I'd think that perhaps that algae you mention is too?
In general nature has amazing colours - it doesn't have to try harder than it already does to impress us :)
The Aurora Borealis is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Sadly never in person. What's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? Don't think the algae is terribly awful. It can exist in freezing conditions. Not much else can. But I don't really know Addb! Thank you for your reply! :)
It's hard to say what's the most beautiful when so much of nature is beautiful. A meadow is beautiful, a mature oak tree standing in a field is stunning. I am always impressed by water, oceans are glorious, as are rivers and streams.. mountains are magnificent.
If I absolutely had to choose ... it would be the aerial flocking displays of starlings that to me is awesome :)
