What happens to the campaign contributions of those who are dropping out of the Dem prez race? What SHOULD HAPPEN to them?

According to the  FEC, there are several permissible things that a candidate can do with the money they’ve received while fundraising. They can use it for moving expenses, pay campaign staff, purchase gifts of “nominal” value to those who aren’t a member of their family, donate it to charity, move it to a state or local party committee, transfer it to a future campaign, or to a state/local candidate.  Candidates can also return funds to their donors (although that may be hard to do), or give it to charity.  What a candidate can’t (or should I say, "isn't" supposed to) do is use campaign funds for personal use.  Although many items this does happen.

In my opinion, they should give it back to the one(s) who donated it to them.  Where this isn't feasible, they should give it to a charity - NOT to another candidate who's still in the race.

I wonder if you donate through your credit card, if you could contact your credit card company and demand they reverse the funds?  LOL

Thank you for that very thoughtful AND informative reply Shuhak. I appreciate it. Can you imagine dumb don doing anything other than funneling it into his own bank account? If you have Obscenely wealthy fat cat donors you probably would know how much they contributed and could return it. I wonder if Bernie has a record of all the names and addresses of his donors? I shall ask. I wonder if anyone leaves tracks and wouldn't mind letting us know where the money would go? If we can believe him/her of course. :)

I've been wondering about that lately. I guess it should go into the campaign funds of the person that wins the nomination. Cheers!

That was my initial thought too Nanoose but Shuhak brings up some good points. I wonder if anyone audits any of these campaigns to make sure however the money is spent is legal? Of course with out current gubment that's a non-issue since legal has been blown up and no longer exists. Even so I'm going to ask. Thank you for your reply. What do the pols do in Canada with unused political contributions?
