An Answermug pal informs me that GOOGLE records every place you go and keeps tracking you relentlessly. Did you KNOW?

Do all internet sites cookie you? I know some do but GOOGLE? Is nothing sacred? That is like stealing a person's diary and reading it without permission. WHO DOES THAT with positive good helpful intent? No one. Geez what a bummer.

OMG D! BIG BROTHER lives with us and watches us and tracks us and records us. For WHAT PURPOSE prithee? To watch our backs and PROTECT US? Or the opposite otherwise? I CAHN'T STEND IT! Jim has a cell phone. It SEEMS innocent enough. For me the ONLY reason to have one is to use in case of an emergency so you can contact someone for help if you're out and about. Mostly though as far as I can tell the cell phone addicts tweet and engage and stay in touch with "the other" at all hours of the day or night terrified of being out of the loop or ignored or unloved. They are paying a price for it that they obviously don't mind paying so long as they get tons of likes and tweets and messages 24/7 the rest of their lives. People will always have others who will provide what they want no matter what it is. SIGH. How do things get worser futurely D? Aren't we already there? Thank for your very scary informative reply. Nightmares await during my waking hours. As if the albatross of dumb don were not enough this too? :( This post was edited by RosieG at March 4, 2020 2:05 PM MST

Most likely it's far worse than I have said....electronics more on far quicker than you imagine...the time from design to it going into production ,something far better is on the drawing board...
Each year mobile phone companies bring out their latest phones...Last years model costing £1,000 pounds or more becomes almost valueless once the new more powerful model hits the shelf....
Look how much a brand new expensive car  devalues in the first year....even faster if they bring out a new replacement model...

Yes, I knew.  Even if one goes incognito (an option on some browsers), some of your what you do is still tracked.

it doesn't stop there.  Siri and Alexa are always listening to you.   We tried and experiment.  Those who had phones turned them off and set them aside. Then we started a fake conversation about snow boots.  When the phones were turned back on all the ads were for snow boots.  Scarry.

If anyone thinks there's privacy in the world anymore they'd better think again.  Everything you say and do is known.  Cameras and listening devices are everywhere - phones, doorbells, stores, streets, apps, cars, other people...    Oh, by the way.. your phone's going to ring in 3 minutes.  But don't worry, it's only a spam call.

It's big brother in its stealth mode.....in the not to distant future it will show its face in a big big way...we will all become just menials to a few....much like China and Japan where their leaders are viewed as gods and not of this world....
It will be the start of a war to e d all wars....no human will be alive for long after the big bang goes off....

Shuhak has revealed the real reason for all this tracing: commerce.

Not Governmental agencies, unless you either live in the People's Republic of China or have done things to raise the alarm. And if you are really afraid of someone somewhere seeing your naughty bits via supposed hidden cameras in your domestic appliances as you do your housework in the altogether... do not buy so-called "smart"   appliances. Simple as that.

In the UK, all your telephone and postal communications are or used to be, protected by the Official Secrets Act, but that does not stop the advertising-agencies eavesdropping on your Internet use.

Yes you could carry your portable phone in a metallic shield as Nice Jugs suggests (though it does not need to be lead - it does not emit ionising radiation!). There are even companies cashing in on that although using a different, equally misplaced fear for their advertising. The only thing is... it will not only stop anyone tracing your movements from the phone's GPS signals, it will stop anyone phoning you!

The real eavesdropping is by or for the advertising-agencies who are the real customers of many big Internet firms like Google and Facebook, via tracking "cookies" (stupid name for them...). Supermarket "store" or "loyalty" card exist for similar purposes. How to protect yourself?

You won't entirely but I would say:

    - Turn your portable 'phone off when you do not actually need it. You may as well anyway if you carry it wrapped in baking-foil.

    - Minimise on-line transactions, especially purchasing from big-name retailers.

    - Vary your shopping generally.

    - Do  not use Facebook and its related or associated companies. "Data-harvesting" is their primary commercial purpose!

     - Turn off the ISP or browser home-page "cookies" as far as you can. It is a bit of chore because they reset to open-access when you end the session.

     - Use a different user-name and password for each registration - even if you have so many you need keep a written list somewhere safe at home.

     - Do not use voice-activated and wire-less devices, and so-called "smart" appliances. Ask yourself... do you really need them?

     - If you use a computer for more than social networking and entertainments, work off-line when you do not need Internet access.

Regarding Shuhak's experiment and its eerie results, I doubt switching the phones off would have made any difference anyway. Try repeating it this time with the phones on but the "assistant" off.

All you say is very very true....it's hard to evade big brother when it's one against so many ....set common man against common man and then reap in the benifits....We are all fools to ourself....

Ooh, what a dystopian view of life! I do think too many people have let themselves become too beholden to their little boxes of electronics.

I do own and use one.....if it's on and charged it triangulates your exact position through three masts....if you brakedown  in the middle of nowhere ....I feel I do need one...Thing is  ,they still don't work everywhere over the whole country.....go outside of London 35 miles and often I can't get a signal....

I had two phones on me once out in the country..My van came to a stand still on a country road...I went to use my phone and the Sim popped out and wouldn't go back in...used my second phone and  while on phone to my recovery service.......the battery in my second phone just died.....I then had to walk miles to a pub to phone....:(
