  • Friend. I never eat too much of it, I tend to eat fairly healthy most of the time (emphasis on "tend" :D) and I enjoy cooking. I have a good relationship with food.

I have studied nutrition literally all my life.  I know what to eat and what not to.  I believe it has kept me in good standing, health-wise.

I also know how to mess up my body.   I went through a decade weighing twice what I do now.  It was not fun, it was not pretty. I learned a lot about what never to do.  The fact that I know how to take care of my body allowed me lose it all with no assistance, besides what I learned and remembered.  If I wasn't in great shape before the weight gain and if I lost the weight in any other way than I did, I would be a saggy, baggy mess right now.

    So, I'm good.

I'm friends with most foods except that potato salad.  It went bad.  Now the potato salad has an attitude.  Just because it's been in the fridge the longest it thinks it better than all the other foods!

I don't mean to be disrespectful but if you are young I think that's normal. I used to eat a lotta stuff that wasn't healthy or nutritious when I was younger and I also had a weight problem. But somewhere around my mid-30's I think my tastebuds changed  and I started eating a lot more veggies and whole grains and fruits and nut and seeds. Not so much because they were  healthier as it was because they just tasted better. I am not a perfect person. I do have my weaknesses. But I control them. So if you are younger you will probably change as you get older. If you are older and still struggle with it maybe you can just minimize or modify how much of the "not so hot" stuff you eat. Thank you for your reply Hannahd and Happy Friday to thee!  :)

Funny you should say that. I made potato salad yesterday. I add celery/onion/a bit of mustard/mayo and a lot of hard boiled eggs to bump up the nutritional value. It's been in the triple digits here LIvvie so I'm not inspired to cook anything that requires heat. I can bake the potatoes in the microwave. The potato  salad won't be around long enough to spoil. I use a combination of redskin potatoes and Yukon gold.  Thank you for your reply. I think if the potatoes have an attitude might be because  you're coddling them. You have to let them know who is boss right from the git-go. I know you can do it!  :)

I always had a weight problem when I was younger and would go on diets. Name a diet and I probably tried it. Somewhere around the age of 35 my taste buds must have changed because I found when I went to the market I was buying a lot more veggies and whole grains and beans and nuts and seeds and fruits. It didn't happen overnight of course and I am not a perfect person. I still have my weaknesses but I am in complete control of what I eat and before the food was in control. So at 78 I have enjoyed 43 years of stable weight. It varies a couple of pounds one way or the other I haven't been on a diet in decades. Now I have to modify that a bit. A few years ago I was told I was prediabetic so I cut out almost all sugar. I also try to limit my salt intake because of a tendency toward high blood pressure. I do use olive oil, canola oil and BUTTER. I don't use fake stuff and I read labels religiously. So I think I'm one of the lucky ones. Losing  your taste for less nutritious foods makes it easy as pie to choose wisely. Thank you for your reply Sharonna!  Oh at my tops I weighed 160.  I hover around 124 now and have for years. I'm 5' 6" so that is a good weight for me. I think the body will do right by you if you do right by it! :)
