They said that because cops wake up one day after however many years of service and decide they will find some random person and shoot them and become trapped in a giant controversy that will likely end their career? That does not seem realistic to me.
Same reason everyone else does. To keep their job, their status in the neighborhood, etc.
And dont forget, sometimes there is a gun.

Why do you assume all cops lie? I dislike cops immensely for the most part, and even I don't assume they all lie.
Because we're all lying, murdering SOBs. All of us are deceitful, underhanded thugs. The sooner that all law enforcement is eradicated at every level, the sooner people will be able to enjoy their complete and unbridled freedoms without restraint. Why should we have little previews of the law of the jungle, when we could have it all. Society as we now see it, craves anarchy. Let 'em have it and have it in large doses.
