No, they just realize that to properly extend the comprehension of the name of the virus they are talking about, the choice of Covid-19 meets the requirement that a useful definition demands a specific difference (Covid-19) as well as a genus (SARS).
I've heard it said that "one's reach should always exceed one's grasp"---but I am convinced that that maxim doesn't if one is intent on promulgating useful information.
I considered subscribing to the local daily broadsheet for the duration (one of Rupert's - they print so much $#it that a little more won't make a difference), but I decided not to. Murdoch rags are only soft on right-wing a$$holes.
Unfortunately true - Australia has lost its collective mind. It's hurting those most vulnerable to coronavirus, too - the elderly, many of whom can't afford to shop around. I was lucky, I only wanted one pack and managed to get it early am from an Aldi near the hospital, on my way home from physiotherapy on my hand. One of the last two in the store and the place had only been open a half- hour that morning. On an unrelated note, my physiotherapist is a professional torturer. I'm sure she was trained by the Spanish Inquisition. I didn't expect that.

In choosing the name, WHO advisers focused simply on the type of virus that causes the disease. Co and Vi come from coronavirus, with D meaning disease and 19 standing for 2019, the year the first cases were seen.
