The first day we can vote by mail in California is Monday, October 10. Last day to register to vote is October 24. Of course Election Day is Tuesday, November 8. We vote by mail. Do any of you do that too? I know at least one state only provides for voting by mail. Polls will be open 7am to 8pm on Election Day. Do you usually vote first thing in the morning or after work on your way home?
Does anyone out there remember when you had only one day to vote in a general election?? In our state you have 30 days to vote in any election. I have to keep reminding myself of how restrictive and punishing the whole process is today. If a person can't vote in that length of time, they don't possess walking around sense.
Early voting started yesterday in my state so I already voted. Now it's all done and over with for me so I can just tune them out which is pretty much what I've already been doing.
Lucky you! So how long ago did you receive your sample ballot? We vote by mail so we get sample ballots first to study and then we get our General Election ballot. I think it's great to have an long a window of voting opportunity as possible. Thank you for your reply Liv and Happy Sunday to you m'dear! Good job! :)

So how much in advance do you get sample ballots and voter information booklets Polk? I agree. 30 days ought to be ample. As soon as I get our sample ballot I read it and start researching folks whose backgrounds I know nothing about. There are all kinds of elections going on locally, state-wide and federal. It takes a long time to learn what they are all about. The Voter Instruction Booklet is 223 pages long! I am not joking. We have Propositions 51-67. Each one outlines a summary, what the proposition means, what your vote means and arguments pro/con, for/against! There is a summary of all of them and then each one has SIX PAGES devoted to it informing you in much greater detail what they are about. There is nothing listed about offices or candidates. I can hardly wait to get the sample ballots and take a look at

which pols are up for re-election, who the newbies are and read up on their backgrounds, affiliations, activities. Voting is not an easy peasy quick thing . The primaries were bad enough! This General Election? Yikes/gadzooks and good grief! I don't remember having to go through so much stuff. All I remember was going out to vote on Election Day. It seemed pretty easy then. Maybe it's just that I'm older now and slower! Thank you for your reply Polk! :)
