What makes you think this has anything to do with me? I don’t even know how or why my name comes up every time a tilde is involved. You know I left that life behind me, you know I’m on the straight and narrow now. Are you wearing a wire? Are you working for the cops again? Grrrrrrrrr.
Did you say tilde? Er, um, listen, I could, uh, well what I mean to say is that er, ah, why don’t you let me hold onto the stray tilde for a while and I could, uh, let’s see, I could probably, no, I’m sure, I’m sure that I can ask around among the tilde community to see if anyone er, if they claim it, that’s all. You really don’t want to have something like that in your possession if you’re not a trained collector. I know a guy or two, and if they’re not available, there’s always Midnite Mildred over by the train tracks who knows just about everything that happens in this town. So the best thing to do, if you want to, that is, the best thing to do is to give it to me for, um, for a few days of safekeeping. It’s best if you don’t mention this to anyone else, I mean, well just don’t say anything if you’re asked what you did with it. I don’t know who might ask, maybe the cops or the feds, who knows? I mean, uh, well a tilde like that could be hot, and you remember that case back in Bremerton in ‘99 is still dogging my heels. If they look into this one and my name comes up, it’s just that I don’t need any pressure right now. You never even talked to me about it, better yet, I didn’t even stop by tonight. You haven’t seen me for s month. Look, could you let me see it? I‘d only be doing you a favor, that‘s all, I know you don’t want to have something like that on your conscience too long, it’s just a favor for a friend, nothing more than that. I’d like to take a look at it if I could, just to see what quality it is. Wow, my hands are shaking like leaves, I wonder what has me so nervous?

Grrrrrr. Be quiet, you. You’re ruinin’ a good deal. This could set me up for the next few months if it’s what I think it is. So just pipe down and do what you do best: sit there and look pretty. Play your cards right and there may be a new dress or a fancy handbag in this for ya, see? Button it up.
