Did you ever think you'd live to see a day when an ordinary man would steal the focus of Easter from Jesus??

    Sad, isn't it?

He’s bad (after the last 3 years what did we expect?), but how about those thousands of people who claim they follow Jesus and yet act like the devil himself?  The ones out there putting others in danger just so they can act religious.  Jesus taught love.  He lived a life always putting others ahead of Himself... even to the point of dying on a cross while being innocent.  Yet I see church after church out demanding that they be allowed open for Easter so their thousands of members can “worship”.  They’re even going as far as taking the government to court (first amendment rights).  They think they are being so holy, and yet their actions show that they only care about themselves (Jesus called these kind of people hypocrites).   So what if they pass on the virus or if they catch the virus?   Their "right" to worship is more important than anything or anyone else.  Just like the Pharisees, they put on a pretense (show) while their hearts are far from God.  “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”  Would Jesus ever have put anyone in danger just so He could worship?  Or was He always thinking of others before Himself.  If Jesus, being God, had this attitude, then what does that say about those who claim to follow him but don’t care about their neighbor?  What are their actions showing to the rest of the world to whom they are supposed to be lights?

The antichrist in the White House is bad enough, but these people are showing that they are no better than he is.

Thank you for your thoughtful and heartfelt reply Shuhak. I have come to depend on you for that. You know what I think of all the time? Jesus preaching outdoors to people sitting on the ground listening to HIS words. Jesus did not need a fancy building. The people did not require anything. They were content to listen to HIS words. So all this fake phony bogus hue and cry about gathering together in church is BLASPHEMY to me. As if that is the only way to reach GOD and the only place HE is present. SIGH. We should be celebrating the resurrection but well the white house lounge act focuses on ratings. Many of these fakes can quote chapter and verse but they have absolutely no comprehension. Getting through the day every day is the goal. Fewer of us make it through to the end. Those of us who have much to be thankful for. :)

Some have come to think of the building they met in as the "church".  It isn't.  It's just a building.   They think that the building is "holy", "sacred", so they treat it as if God Himself lives there.  He doesn't .  (if He did, He'd get mighty lonely mon-sat.)  The (true) "church" are the people who are following God/Jesus.  God "dwells" in them - not in some building.

Jesus said  - “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.  I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me."

God is present in US IF we are in Him (through His Son).  Not because we're in the fanciest building.

Jesus said – “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. … But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”

Not because we can quote bible verses.  The Pharisees could quote the entire old testament down to the very last ‘jot and tilde’, but they didn’t obey it).

Jesus said - “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.”

I'm not religious but that's more or less how I've always understood the belief  - that God is all around, not just in buildings called churches. The buildings serve an important function but are the conduit to the belief, not its focus.

In one way it doesn't really surprise me that one ordinary man (I can guess who!) can take centre-stage at Easter, given how Easter, Christmas and even the minor All Hallows' have been so taken over by commerce that their original meanings are heavily disguised.

Quite a lot of churches in Britain - parish churches as well as cathedrals - have devised on-line services that at least keep in non-physical touch with their congregations now that they have all locked their doors. One, in London, was startled to find itself attracting worshippers around the world! Obviously they can't really observe rites like Communion, at least I can't see how that might work, but the services probably work otherwise because those following by praying at home know they are not doing so alone.

One very public aspect of the locked churches in England is silent bells, and I wonder if the ringers are going to need almost re-learn the change-ringing art when they eventually can return!

I had not even thought about the silence Durdle. Silent bells. There as a memory of what used to be. Churchbells ringing have always been part of the landscape. That they are now silent emphasizes the isolation and somberness of our lives. I think GOD resides within and without every moment so where you are matters not at all. If on-line steaming services comfort some I see no problem with that. But no one NEEDS anything at all to worship or stay in touch with GOD. To think otherwise is illogical in my opinion. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I'm going to use your silent bells in a question. :)
