My experience with internet social sites is limited. Answerbag and Answermug. Do some sites draw looney tunes?

Which internet social site have you been on that had a cast of characters right out of a Damon Runyon story?
Bigger than life and weirder too? Ever leave a site because you were threatened?

Looney tunes???   That's putting it mildly.  More like a$$hole$ (pardon my language).
I've been on several social sites.  My first, The Experience Project (EP), was so full of pervs and trolls that they finally shut it down.  I'm currently on Similar Worlds (a newer version of EP), but it too has it share of nutjobs.  There was one site I was on just after EP closed (I can't recall its name).  It was (supposedly) a clean, closed community.  However, I was so harassed there that I had to leave (it shut down less than a year later).

Anonymity brings out the worst in some people.  Since no one knows who they really are, they can unleash their inner-bully; say things they wouldn't dare say in public for fear of reprisal.   If you take a close look at these sites you can really see what goes on inside people's minds.  Some are nice, what would be called "normal".  Others, however, are dark and perverted.  Their minds are filled with lust and the desire for selfish pleasures.  They don't care about anyone other than themselves.  They are purposefully distributive (a troll),by being nasty and perverted.  Some have several identities, so that when one of their alises gets shut down, they can continue trolling using another.  Some are just outright jerks, showing no regard for rules or other people's feelings.

What or who drew you here Shuhak? Which is your favorite? Where do you feel most at home? I suspected there was a lot of stuff out there on the edges of society that would not be my cuppa tea. I'm weird but I don't think it ventures into the grotesque ghastly bizarre or creepy. But then judging oneself is always dicey. Thank you for your thoughtful and informative reply! :)

When the Experience Project (EP) closed down everyone scattered; desperately seeking another similar site.  I had a few friends on EP, some because of my wacky humor, some because of my religious stance, and 2 who talked with me regularly.  The 2 who I talked to regularly moved to Facebook (where we still talk).  A few of the religious friends came here and suggested I come too.  At the same time, I followed one of my humor friends to another site (the one I had to leave).  The religious thing here didn't go too well here and eventually they all left.  I stayed, but didn't visit much, preferring instead to brandish my humor on the other site.  When I was forced to leave their other site (due to trolling and harassment), I came back here but wasn't impressed.  About that time Similar Worlds (SW) opened up (calling itself "the new EP").  It was still under construction I came on here more and more ... and have been her ever since.   I'm still on SW, but I only answer humorous questions from my friend in England.

I feel most at home here, as there are too many kids on SW.  I wish they'd ask more humorous questions here, as right now the main question page is dominated by a few people who seem desperate to become trolls.

I am confined to my space Shuhak and never venture out of it. So I have no idea what goes on elsewhere here. I will tell you what I like about having my own little home. People have to seek me out. They have to go out of their way to find me. Now some do so for nefarious reasons. Them's the folks I ignore. Other's do so because I expect they enjoy the chats. In any case I don't know who asks what where or why. I'm occupied as long as I'm here asking my questions which is really all I want to do. If I get a hit on occasion that's a bonus. Just asking satisfies me completely. What is done with my questions once asked matters not one whit to me. I simply don't care if they are pulled. Once in awhile I hit pay dirt and really nifty conversations ensue. I'll be here as long a I get what I'm after and not a moment longer. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Why do you "feel most at home" here? That's the basis of a question methinks which of course I shall ask. :)

There are three reasons why I feel at home here -

    1. Because I feel my "oddball" humor is appreciated here (at least for now).  I enjoy making people laugh; or to at least brighten up their day a bit.
    2. (most) People here are nice - even when they disagree.
    3. I'm made to feel like I "belong".

If/when me and/or my humor are no longer appreciated, or this place becomes clogged with trolls, I will leave. This post was edited by Shuhak at April 12, 2020 9:53 AM MDT

Will you leave with regrets or simply just move on and never look back? Do you leave places easily? Thank you for your reply.

No, I do not leave places easily.  Once established, I'm one of those "committed" type people - trying to look for the best; keep giving second chances.

As for regrets... it depends on why I had to leave and if I can find someplace else.
