it really depends on what you get for the money. I spent about that amount on mine, but I use it 15 hours a day and it isn't enough for me. It gets me by, though.
I just bought a new Acer laptop for around $300. It has everything I want including Windows 7 and a non-glare screen. Yes, it is brand new. I don't like W10. It also has a DVD drive, a big hard drive and plenty of memory, but that can be increased. It has 17" screen..............yes, it is replacing a desk top. It is still in the box so I can't say how I like "using" it.
I have a little 10" Dell that I keep in my briefcase. It's five years old. I have been using it daily since I moved because I haven't set up my office . The number keys are failing intermittently. Each day there are a couple that don't work, but the nonworkers change daily. I'm on it now. I'll keep it for travel but am getting anxious to set up the new one. My desk top is a great computer and it is going on my upstairs desk.

I think that John C. Dvorák once said that "the computer that you want will always cost $3,000". But you can get a decent laptop for somewhere between $500 and $1,000. Maybe even less if you shop around.
