Is the some setting somewhere I can use to protect my e-mail address from being used for email notification or any other auto-generated SPAM

I just notice that the checkbox at "send me a notification when someone answer" is now set as the default.

I would prefer it not to be set EVER. I get plenty enough SPAM without that.

You can turn off all email notifications under settings.

  • I did not see an option for emails. I don't like getting a thousand mug mails a day. My phone has been dinging like crazy since this site came up. I only want alerts here, not in my emails. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at September 29, 2016 7:49 PM MDT

  • If it stops the alerts from showing here, what's the point of even having them? ?

  • I have all my boxes unchecked and receive no emails from the new site now.  I am solely using the notifications 'bell' (which still updates) at the top of the page to see recent activity.

    http://answermug.com/members/settings/notifications

    It says:

    Notification Settings

Which of the these do you want to receive email alerts about?

You don't get a choice in your on-site notifications, but you choose what gets sent to your inbox.

I agree with goat about the having to check every time you answer or reply to NOT get  notified because someone else answered the question.  I think the default should be not checked.  That was something I saw as a negative with the old site.  I only want notification if someone interacts with me by commenting on my answer.  I don't really care if other answer that question after me.  I know you are getting a million suggestions and I hate to be  1,000,001.  :)

Thank you, I found it there.
It can also be found by clicking the red chekmark/open-menu-mark in the title line of the settings page.

You should still get them.. I've turned them off since the start and I've been solely relying on the bell notifications.

  • Ok, I turned them all off except the one for when I get a message. I got the alert for this, so I guess i'm satisfied. Now I just need to go clean out all the countless emails I received since yesterday.
