Do you remember toy cap guns?

I can see why they are no longer sold.

They are sold where I live. Most do not look real though...bright orange.

  • That's a Fanner 50 revolver. Back in the 50's, every little boy had a set of them. Also, the guns used in the more popular TV westerns were big hits at Christmas time. How well I recall the smell of exploding caps.

I think I had one. We used to hit rolls of caps with hammers. Fun.

  • Yep, a rock or a brick was perfect for it

Yes.  We were never allowed to have one, though (mm hated them).  When my brother managed to "smuggle in" a roll of caps, we'd used rocks to set them off.  A large river rock dropped on an entire roll of caps either went BOOM! or clunk - either way we'd get sent to our room.  He also "smuggled in" a cap bomb.  Took mom nearly a year before she finally found and confiscated it.

I do remember them.  I didn't have a gun, but I used to explode the caps with a rock.
