The American settlers were not good people. They were invaders who took over a country not theirs and killed. Tawdry stock eh what?

That’s how it’s always been throughout history.  Countries invade others, and, if victorious, take the “spoils”.  Countries such as, Assyria, Egypt, Israel, Babylon, Greece, Rome, Spain, and Britain.  These countries formed empires by conquering other lands, killing the inhabitants, and taking the lands as their own.  America is no different.  In fact, every person on earth is descended from people who invaded and murdered those of weaker nations.

Yes, our weapons are more “sophisticated” that the clubs, spears, arrows and swords of our ancestors.  The Chinese developed gunpowder.  It was used for warfare in 904 AD – long before America ever existed.  Several countries tried to invent the A-bomb, this country happened to be the first.  Otherwise things would be a lot different today – and not necessarily better.
