What were (officially) the very first sports teams in world history? ~


  Originally, I was going to write the singular “team”, but of course they would have had to have someone to play . . .

    1. Mitcham Cricket Green Club dates from 1685.

    2. Dublin University Football Club dates from 1854

    3. Sheffield Football Club was founded in 1858.

    4. Melbourne Football Club was founded in 1859.

    5. In the U.S the oldest baseball team is Cincinnati Red Stockings. 1869

    6. Intercollegiate American Football teams Rutger and Princetown were also founded in 1869.
