Living out on the prairies we were experiencing such a fierce blizzard one time that dad relocated us all to the cellar for safety because the house was shaking so bad.
I have and it was a nightmare. It's an incredibly traumatic thing to go through. At first the shock is all you can really think about. But when you lose everything and have to start over from scratch, every task, from the greatest to the most trivial and seemingly insignificant, is so inescapably stressful. But it does get better after awhile.
Oh my dear you lost everything? I am so sorry to hear that you had such a devastating experience as that. Thank you for your reply FNR and Happy Thursday! :)
Yep, I went through Katrina. We had water up to the second story light-switches, everything was lost, but all the family survived, so that's what matters.
Three times. The first a windstorm brought a tree down into my living room. A month or so to make repairs and reroof was all that took. The second time a fire nearly gutted my house, so I was out from Christmas until the following July as the place was almost completely redone. This last time was also due to a fire.
Oh my goodness Bozette! That is 3 awful things! Seems to me you've had more than your share of it so hopefully iyour life will be smooth sailing from now on! Thank you for your reply! :)
Didn't have to relocate, but did have go around wit locals busting shed locks to summer homes looking for fuel and heaters to keep people and myself warm and safe. No power or fuel deliveries for almost a month one winter. We left notes and returned all items with donations. The area just kind came together and people got put up if they needed a place and people pooled food and game meat together.
In other words just like you see in the movies. When someone's barn burns down the entire community get together to rebuild it . Neighbors helping one another during tough times. That is a very good thing. Surviving for a month without power or fuel? That doesn't sound like a very pleasant experience. I guess you relied on fireplaces and potbelly stoves for warmth. Did you cook over open fires too? Thank you for your reply Glis! :)
