not always . but in the hands of a great plastic surgeon , you can end up with a new life and feel good in your skin ( im talking about people who were born differents and that only surgery could improve their 'cases')
Teeth are Very important. Please remember, your teeth are very close to your brain. If they hurt or get infected, it is very dangerous, physically. Your dentist should tell you this and know this. Your insurance company needs to know you are having them done for medical reasons. Even if you are doing to better how you feel about yourself, it is considered a medical reason. That is my opinion.

My insurance won't cover what I need to be done, which is the reason why I haven't had them fixed. I need oral/facial surgery in addition to the teeth, very expensive.Old age has made me higher maintenance.
I think their names promote a bad rap.. Something about the word "plastic...." It just doesn't sit right with some.
Like ALL other careers, plastic surgeons AND their clients, have The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
As you have asked your question, there are times when they are needed. How a person "feels" about themselves to fit in with society is very important. We ALL want to fit into a group. General society would be a good start. If a person was born with a deficiency or not feel accepted for an apparent physical trait, plastic surgeons are The Best.
They do wonders to help people feel good about themselves.
Finding one that is "good" is just like anything else. There is a price. I have rewritten this part numerous times because I can't seem to get what I am saying worded correctly. I will try again. Hopefully, the thought will come across. Please don't take it wrong on either the patient or the doctor. Society has made it as such that the good plastic surgeons are pricey. This doesn't mean the surgeons who don't charge an arm and a leg (no pun intended) aren't as good. Sometimes, in my mind, THEY ARE THE TRUE SURGEONS who aren't in it for the money but are there to help those who are in need. Again, this doesn't mean the high-costing surgeons aren't. It really is a hard question to answer. Plastic surgeons are needed for many reasons. I believe they do good no matter what it costs. Your self being is worth it.
Do you know what would make you feel good in your skin? (your words) Knowing that which is in the center of your being. Way beyond ego attachment to physical beauty. I knew a woman, if you just looked at her physical body, a narrow minded person would say "She's sooo ugly"... But if you'd never seen her before and came into her presence, you would have the feeling that she was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen. You would see only beauty, you would feel only beauty, You would look deep into her eyes, and feel complete in her love.... Why?...Because of where she was. She wasn't in the surface of consciousness, seeing the body and identifying with the body as imperfect in her egoic pride. She was deep within herself identifying with the consciousness beyond the body. where there is no ugly, only Beauty. We go through life thinking we are the body identifying with what we see in the mirror, never realizing that is not who we really are. The woman i was talking about had given up her attachment to the physical body and as a result was able to stay in the presence of the deeper consciousness, where there is no division, no ego...only love.
my case is unique. i was born with a very visible birthmark on my cheek. and i didnt wanted to live miserably in a sense because of it and only option to remove it was surgery....
