What is your very favoritest WAVE? Why? How about your favoritest WAIVE?

Permanent (on your head very popular in the long ago olden days)
Micro (where you cook or heat up food or drink)
Ocean (where you see diamonds playing among the waves courtesy of the sun)
Hand( like the Queen does as she rides in a motorcade)
Flag (in a breeze)
Crowd (like in a stadium)  Ever been part of that kind of WAVE?

As for WAIVE? Anything to do with fees. Right? Anything that gets you out of having to pay anything for something.

Waive parking fees
Waive the taxes

Of course it's scary, that's part of the thrill. Misjudge the take off and it gets you. Breaks in front of you and it gets you. Wiped out, water crashing all around you, short on air and no idea which way is up - yep, I've been terrified. It adds to the satisfaction when the wave has spent it's fury behind me and I'm upright.
Boogie boards are for girls and little brothers. If that sounds sexist, it's because it is - male surfers are among the worst misogynists on Earth (not me, I was never that good - I always had a bit of kook in me and got dropped in on all the time). Steph Gilmore could put most of them to shame, though.
I had a boogie board as a kid, but always wanted a proper board. Had to wait until I was earning my own money and could buy my own, had a paper round which did it.

See what we are reduced to these days? Boogie Board memories are fondly recalled. Long ago and far away things were so very different than they are today. Who woulddda thunk it? Thank you for your informative reply R. When you wiped out did you ever get hurt...I mean big hurt? Break bones hurt? This post was edited by RosieG at August 14, 2020 7:15 AM MDT

Nothing worse than a mild concussion. I've had much worse injuries in sport - broken my nose three times (never in the ring), three broken teeth, dislocated shoulder. I did almost drown once, got caught in a "rip tide" - fortunately I've never been dumb enough to surf at an unpatrolled beach, and lifesavers are always looking out for precisely that sort of thing. More embarrassing than anything else. I was heading for New Zealand when the guy reached me.

Wow and you're still here? Wow. Did the mild concussion hurt? I'm sure whatever you broke caused pain. I believe very strongly in the BUDDY system R. If you're there with someone and get in trouble he/she can go for help or maybe help. Being alone "out there"? Not me. Too fraidy catty. Heading for New Zealand? Oppositely from heading back to shore? Methinks we used to have an Answerbag mod who lived in New Zealand didn't we? Thank you for your informative reply. I broke my ankle when I was 3 and got frozen shoulder as an adult. Those are the "conditions". Oh and of course the stage 3 cancer in 2008. Oh and a tonsillectomy when I was 3. My stuff and your stuff is behind us. Thankfully! :)
