    What kind of grain? Or does it matter? 

    I've always wondered if porridge is what Americans call oatmeal. Or if it's more like Cream of Wheat? It sounds like it's either, maybe?

    Rolled oats. Could be oatmeal but I believe the American stuff is ground oats.
