Discussion»Questions»Life and Society» You teach people how to treat you if they aren't smart enough to figure it out. themselves. You have to value yourself. Do you?
Totally agree with this. I didn't catch on until a lot later in life that I really was responsible for the people I had in my life, good and bad. Once I figured that out and made changes, it got a whole lot better.
I tell both my adult kids that they are the captains of their own ships and their decisions with what they allow into their lives will have a direct impact.
I think it takes aging somewhat to help us figure ourselves out and what we need from others and what we have to give to others. You set the value on yourself as to how you deserve to be treated and then you act accordingly. You cut off those who are impolite/rude/insulting and interact/engage with those who are civil, polite, respectful. Whether you agree or disagree about anything is completely irrelevant. How you comport yourself and what you will accept/reject is your call entirely. If you don't value yourself why should anyone else? Thank you for your reply PeaPod! :)
