Would you enjoy some of your favorite music less if you broke down the catchy lyrics and analyzed what they truly mean?

(I'm listening to Bruce Springsteen's "Dancin' in the Dark" right now.)

  • "Very likely."  ... generally, I just look at the forest because I don't have the time to look at all the trees. That may be a reason why I listen to a lot of instrumental music.

I don't count on the lyrics.  I depends on what the artist did with them and what else is in the song.  Like a good painter, we don't buy a painting because we like the paint type or the oil versus water color; but rather, we like how the composition fits the point of the art.

Same with music.  Sometimes the lyrics are best when they are dumbass and sometimes the brilliance of an idea carries the weightiest messages that make the song good no matter how it sounds.   The best is when they all fit perfectly.  And when you have an album like that?  You have a classic made from magic itself.

  • The majority of music I listen to is in languages I do not speak, Latin, German and Italian.  I enjoy the music for itself.
