Homeowners, how different might your life be right now if your first home had cost exactly half of what it did? (See clarification below.)

This question is being asked with the idea that it’s the exact home that you bought, the size of it isn‘t changed, the appraisal of it isn’t changed, nor are any of its amenities, the location, etc, nothing at all beyond the selling price.
Your answer can be based on, but is not limited to any of the following probabilities:

Finances/fiscal planning/budget/savings/other investments
Ability to afford other real estate
Decisions on education-related matters
Employment-related decisions
Retirement-related decisions
Quality time with family members
Quality of life in general
Peace of mind

I like the 3rd one.  The 2nd one is cute as well.

I believe the second one might be a mobile home (trailer).  [Caravan, to those across The Pond.]

The 3rd one has a garage and it looks like it is in San Francisco, a garage is a plus.

    It's better than an apartment.

That should be a separate question.

      Huh?

Go ahead and post it if you see a question there.

The way you changed your question could have been another question

What are you on about? What change? I changed my question?  You have me so confused.

We would have had enough money to do some work on it to make it a bit more livable.

Our first house was given to us.  It was a big two-story house built in 1905.  It was condemned. It took over a year but we restored it back to it's original German glory.  So, no, I'm happy with how that turned out. ;) This post was edited by Thriftymaid at October 4, 2020 3:18 PM MDT

Thank you for your answer.  Well, in that case, it appears your situation was much different than other people’s, so I’ll alter the question this way: after your first house, if you’ve ever purchased any other residence, how might your life have been different if the price would have had been half of what it was?

It would have been less beneficial financially.  When we sold that first house we bought a much more expensive house than I could have ever bought on my own.  We had no mortgage. Eventually the house was fully mine.

*had* been half of what it was

When if or wish precedes, use had.

      Thank you; I stand corrected!
