How is it possible to "feel" someone's presence without seeing them or explicitly knowing they're there?

It's that feeling you get sometimes that danger is present or someone is staring at you and I've heard people speak of that.  I was watching a program recently where a  woman was attacked in her home and she spoke of this uneasy feeling that something wasn't quite right prior to the attack.  I guess you could call it a sixth sense of sorts or intuition though some might disagree.  Have you ever had this happen??

  • Almost unerringly, if I sense someone may be looking at me, if I turn to see, I discover that he or she is looking directly at me.

I have no name for this phenomenon because I don't think we understand it or know what it is. We may have sense perceptions that we don't yet have the ability to measure or test. I suspect that in some way we are attuned to feeling consciousness when it's focused in our direction, the same way as we can feel the direction of sunlight when it shines on our skin.

Yes, I have often experienced that, not only when a person is staring at me, but also an animal.  I really don't know how it is that we are able to sense this.

yes, and I listen to it more these days. it's a sixth sense, a gathering of information available to all of us at an unseen telepathic psychic level. Some put it down to spirit warnings, gut instinct or an openness to the sixth sense. It can truly save your life, be the difference between life and death and most of all a valuable resource that is often dismissed ridiculed and ignored. Psychic attack is a reality affecting millions of people today, entities, thoughts and beliefs that conspire to take you down on a daily basis. If you can sense who it is, you can deal with it and stop it

  • No. You only remember the times that you "feel" someone there and then see someone. What about the other times when you "feel" someone there and nobody is there? You don't remember those. If you feel dread while alone every night, when something eventually does happen, then suddenly you "knew" something bad was about to happen.

When we are tuned into "being"
    Our awareness is peaking.
Since there is only one being,
    Consciousness is deep.

monklington everjet, as much as some people dismiss the possibility of psychic powers, I  think there's something to it.  At least enough to keep an open mind rather than dismissing it entirely.  I've also heard it said that everyone has the ability but I suppose it's a matter of recognizing and embracing it and that children are more receptive because their minds are more open.  It's a very interesting topic and I thank you for your sharing your thoughts.

  • I think you're right about that, Baba.

When on Vipassana Meditation courses, which are conducted in silence, the sensitivity to others increases sharply.

It becomes much more than simply noticing body language, posture, and levels of energy in movement. One can feel subtleties with an acuteness which is absent in the midst of the mental clutter of daily life.

Generally we can not do that.

What we can do though is receive sense clues that they are there. Clothes rustling, sound of breath, shadows cast into our visual range, heartbeats.  All is percieved by our brains and out comes the perception that "someone is there" without us having the faintest idea how we know. It is not infallible though, frequently when we look  there is nothing there but a fluttering curtain or something else equally impersonal.
