I felt so bad when I read that.  I had hoped he would be able to hang on a little longer.

Did you see the interview* Alex Trebek gave about a month ago where he talked about, among many other things, all the pain he was going through?  He said that even lately while filming episodes of the game show, he suppressed a lot of pain and tried his best to let others know how bad it was.  It was so tough to hear him say it, to see the look on his face. Perhaps there’s solace for him in that he’s not suffering any longer . . .

*I thought it was on “60 Minutes”, but in my cursory search right now, the only reference or the most recent reference I found to an interview he did with them was from the year 2003.

No, I didn't see the interview, but it was reported that he said that he wasn't going to put himself through a host of therapies that took away his quality of life just to live a bit longer.  I'm guessing he also didn't want to put his family through the pain of watching him go slowly and in pain.

Yes, you’re right. What a great man, and I mean that by his strength of character, personality, gallantry, poise, humor, wit and intellect.

Because of him, I learned much of 19th century Polish poets and species of lizards. RIP Alex.

He’s irreplaceable on that show. Even if the show continues with someone else hosting (Ken Jennings, perhaps), it won’t be the same for me.

True for me as well.  Maybe they will honor Alex with a name change or something.. At least call  The Board something like Alex's Board or just Alex

Are you referring to a change of the name of the show?  Wow, I wouldn’t advocate that at all, and in fact, now that you mention it, I wouldn’t even like if the format changed either. You’ve brought up a scary probability that I had not even considered before.

No.  The board...you know, the one where the categories are listed with monetary amounts underneath.  They could call that board "Alex."    Let's see what Alex has for us tonight....

Ah, now I see what you mean, thank you for clarifying.

Alex, I’ll take “Aptly Appropriate Ideas” for $1200, please.
