I counter that while he may have a valid point, the way the question is posted does not prevent an answer such as yours, because its first word is definitely a verb. Your answer is fine, it still stands. Pay him little attention.

Your English skills are very, very good, in fact, you’re better than many native speakers (ok, writers). I wish my Spanish skills were half as good as your English.
