Right now, everything in NYC is open but the public school system. Bars ad gyms have to close at 10 PM Every day De Blasio makes a different decision on opening/closing schools. If I were a parent, I'd want to lynch him. Parents don't even get 24 hours notice when he closes the schools. Anyone who is still employed is very likely to lose their jobs because they may have to stay home and care for their children. If the Covid rate goes just a little higher, they will be closing everything non-essential.
That would drive me bonkers. Not even a reasonable notice? That is not a good leader. Thank you for your informative reply L. We are grateful that our kids are grown and we're retired. I honestly don't know how we would manage and I feel so bad for those parents who can't even control their own lives or the lives of their children. They can only react to whatever comes down. Condolences to all of them everywhere. Happy Sunday before Thanksgiving m'dear! :)
I feel really bad for them. I do. Cheated out of a normal childhood very bigly. No way to ever make it up to them. None. Thank you for your reply L! :)
Yes, they are being cheated in a way, but the other side of that coin is that maybe they will learn at an early age how to deal with disappointments in life when things don't go as planned. There has to be a reason for the very high rate of suicide in young people. Parents cannot protect their children from every negative thing that comes along and maybe they shouldn't try. Maybe those are teachable lessons on how to cope. Just my opinion.
The pro duck parents will damage their children very bigly through this and be terrible awful horrible disgusting whinya** complainers throughout. They will say that duck is doing everything right and it is the big meanies who fight him. So those kids are doomed. The children of those who are doing what they need to do to stay alive will benefit from the example. We know all those who voted for the duck are the whinya** moaners and their kids are gonna be whinya** moaners too. They are never going to escape it. How bad does that make you feel? I bet awful. Thank you for your reply L and Happy Monday to thee. I shall ask.
I feel bad for the future whiny* kids because they aren't making their own choices. They will learn soon enough that while they may be the center of their parents' universe, they aren't the center of THE universe.
I don't disagree with the downsides, but I'm not sure a reasonable notice is possible---if this Covid-19 is the equivalent of a bombing raid or a sinking boat, how much notice can one give about what is necessary to stop a disaster from happening.
To what are you referring tom? I read my question again and again I apologize to you but how does this fit the question? What am I missing? Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday to thee and thine! :(
I just reread this thread and now know what you are responding to...what I said to Spunky.

I hope it stays that way for you m2c. Perhaps you will dodge the bullet. Perhaps it is just slow getting around to you. Time will tell. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday before Thanksgiving! :)
It is more abundant in the big cities. (St Louis, KC) I don't live close to them. We have cases and deaths here. I just do not any of the people.

True. More places to congregate with more people. So far we don't know anyone we know who has it or had it. I hope it stays that way. I mean what can you do about it? Not a thing. Thank you for your reply m2c! :)
And as soon as he said it, 2 counties quickly avowed that they would refuse to enforce it.
(Sigh) The more people refuse to listen and comply, the harsher things the government has to do to try and keep people safe. The harsher the restrictions, the more people bitc*. (vicious circle)
People think the government is being too authoritarian.. telling them what they can and can't do (how dare they!). Unfortunately, they have no clue as to what living under a real authoritarian government is truly like. Their complacency will be their undoing.
The get a driver's license so they can drive a car. They follow posted speed limits so they don't get a ticket. They put money in parking meters for the conveience of parking near where they are shopping. They get university degrees so they can qualify and apply for specific jobs. They get marriage licenses which authorizes them (gives permission) to get married. They sign leases which allows them to live in places owned by others. They follow obediently many federal state and local rules like puppy dogs. But to stay alive they can't be bothered? Tell me that isn't the mark of a crackpot? I know I'm preaching to the choir. Sigh. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)
They do when they see a cop car hiding on the edge of the freeway. Jim has an eagle eye and ALWAYS spots them. They like to hide under trees. I know. Not all but enough to make my point valid. Right? They mew and whine and object and attack and insult about something that will save their lives. How do you deal with that kind of madness? I have no idea. Are they all SUICIDAL? Death by copy used to be the rage. Death by virus? Weird but then they arell wired weird. Thank you for your reply! :)
Oh, I'm not arguing against you. It's just when I read that I immediately thought of the Waste Management trucks in this area. They laws don't seem to apply to them. They can't drive the speed limit. Even when picking up trash they must exceed that limit- even if there's only a few yards between pickups. They fly downroads and through intersections - 50-60 mph before dawn and 40-50 mph during daylight hours). They don't care about traffic (why should they? In an accident they will always come out the better) The police, highway patrol and sheriff all ignore them.
Funny you should mention Waste Management. Our son Gary who lives in Fernley, Nevada a suburb of Reno works for Waste Management! Small world. He drives one of those trucks! Thank you for your reply! :)
If there are multiple normative systems coordinated by a global policy, they are not the same

Apologies to thee tom but to what does this reply refer? Did I ask that question elsewhere? If so I don't remember. Anyone can give permission to anyone. But not everyone is authorized to do so.
I can permit you to throw trash on the sidewalk in front of my house. But I expect there are laws against that and so the authorities would not give permission. It depends upon your status doesn't it? I think "authorizing" is a legal thing backed up by laws maybe? Whereas permitting may not be or actually be contra. But because I'm not sure where you are coming from I'm flying blind here. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Sorry, I was too tired and not that interested in posting something that is so obscurely technical. It refers to a sentence in your reply to Shuhak: They get marriage licenses which authorizes them (gives permission) to get married.
Sometimes those words are interchangeable, sometimes they have slightly different meanings.
In this case, I would choose authorize and eliminate "permission."
And what I posted above in that comment came from an article on which word to use and under what conditions.
Here in Michigan, the governor has enacted new restrictions. In-person classes at high schools and colleges statewide will be suspended for three weeks along with eat-in dining at restaurants and bars. It also includes the cancellation of organized sports and group exercise classes.
Casinos and movie theaters, indoor ice rinks, bowling alleys, and bingo halls also will have to temporarily shut down, and all businesses are asked to allow employees to work from home if possible.
The real kicker here and the one that is causing the most unrest is that gatherings inside homes are limited to two households at any time and health officials strongly urge families to pick another single household to interact with over the next three weeks. When our governor says "three weeks" what she really means is that she can and will most likely extend that time period anytime she wants to and to any length of time, she wants to.
