Discussion»Questions»Religion and Spirituality» Does the second coming of Jesus apply to Christians only? Jews created Jehovah, don't follow Jesus teachings. Just a Christian fantasy?
Definitely not a Jewish thing. We don't recognize the resurrection or that man's divinity. "I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other God before me." That means one God, and it's not the Nazarene.
Yes, exactly what I'm trying to say. If the one God from the bible is a Jewish creation, then Jews should know a lot more about the second coming. After all, according to Christians, it is the son of the Abrahamic god who said, "I'll be back", before Arnold Schwarzenegger did
And if that one God who revealed Himself to His chosen people had added as a footnote that the second person in God would become man and restore humanity (and the rest of creation) to a proper and even better relationship with Him in the future---not to mention introducing the gifts of the third person in the trinity---how do you think the chosen people would have comprehended that little tidbit?
And how would we Gentiles (non-Jewish) humans been restored to that relationship with God?
But, hey, eventually we'll probably have all our questions answered.
And as you say, "People are free to think and believe as they choose."
"There are some Jews...", means not all Jews believe. It also means their faith is divided. Do the Jews who believe in and follow Jesus believe in his second coming. What goes for Christians must go for Jews, because Jesus did not come to change the law (Matthew 5:17)
Actually, they are not legally recognized as Jews. Rabbis consider any acceptance of Jesus to be hostile and antithetical to Judaism:
Jewish law makes a distinction between non-Jews who are Christians and born Jews who accept Christianity. Having left Judaism, the latter are Christians who are also apostate Jews. As such, Jewish law cannot grant them the privileges of Jews, such as synagogue membership, aliyot to the Torah, and Jewish burial. However, if they return to Judaism, they will be welcomed back. Unlike born Christians, a Jew who converts to Christianity has demonstrated a negative attitude, not to say contempt, for Judaism. Judaism recognizes and honors Christians and Christianity and does not seek to convert Christians to Judaism. At the same time, it expects Christianity to respect Judaism and not to seek to convert Jews. Unfortunately, Messianic sects do exactly that while contending that they do not.
