.
I've had friends of over 50 years. The reason we've been friends for so long is because we have enough respect for one another to be honest. Do we always agree? Of course not! But our bond is based on honesty and not lies.
There is a saying I believe in that says this. "I'd rather be hurt by the truth, than to be kissed by lies." That pretty much sums up what I believe in, as do those friends who I now consider family.
someone who is always honest
I would add one caveat to that. Purposeless hurtful truth serves no one. Example. You are visiting a dying friend in the hospital who says "I must look like he**". You say "You sure look good to me" or something like that which is true if you love the person, The terrible truth is the person look very bad but what good is that truth at that time? Another example. At a funeral a widow is informed that her husband and best friend were engaged in an affair for years . What good is that truth? Thank you for your reply SA and Happy July 4th Monday! :)

Unless the honesty serves no purpose and is hurtful. Thank you for your answer pearl! :)
