Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» For years the singular goal of Republicans? Block anything a Democrat wants to do. It didn't always used to be that way. What changed?
Rosie, I know you know better than that. :) Democrats and Republicans have both gone out of their way to block each other for decades. That's not about to change anytime soon.
Believe it or not, there was a time when the two parties were able to work together. I'm pretty sure that was when Tip O'Neill was Speaker of the House.
It was L. That's when Tip and President Reagan would disagree at work and after work go out and have dinner together. They LIKED each other and RESPECTED each other. They just had a problem with their divergent views. BUT THEY FOUND A WAY TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE COUNTRY. Can we get that again? Who knows?
Exactly what I meant. That held for other politicians as well. They were friends outside of the Capitol and were able to hammer out their differences over a cocktail and dinner. Now, both sides hate each other and neither wants to give an inch.
What triggered the new and improved political situation? BUried in the history of the Republican Party? Maybe someone knows. Thank you for your reply L and Happy Thursday! "_
