12 miles to the southwest.  Our landfill boasts of having the most scenic views in the entire county.  On a clear day, one can see much of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains, from just south of Mount Shasta to just north of Yosemite, and all the forested hills between.  It's utterly breathtaking... in more ways than one.

OK, technically it's now a "transfer station" (the landfill part was shut down back in the 90's due to well water contamination).  Trash is no longer allowed to be buried in this county (again, wells), so it's trucked down to somewhere above Colusa

I believe it's in Staten Island.

I thought they barged NYC's garbage to another state. This post was edited by Element 99 at February 21, 2021 2:26 AM MST

They might be doing that now, but I think the Staten Island landfill is still there.  What other state could take that much garbage?  Oh, I know - Texas.

City landfill is about 8 miles away but the private contractors have their own sites at locations unknown.

  • It's 40 km to the southwest in La Matanza County, BA.  González Catán, the closest city to it, smells bad and has polluted drinking water from it.
