The reason the people in the parable about the Emperor's (nonexistant) Clothes don't admit that he is, in fact, buck naked is because there is NO SOCIAL BENEFIT to doing so. Pointing out the Emperor's nakedness will simply lead to social shunning (and possible state retribution, depending upon how tyrannical the emperor is), with all sorts of negative consequences. So the Emperor's subjects go along with the pretense.
Similarly, if you question the appropriateness of The Donald's bid for presidency in millieux where support for The Donald is strong, you will simply invite the ire of your RWAF neighbors. So many pretend that The Donald actually IS a "successful businessman" with "great ideas" who will "upset the status quo."
Of course, some people are perfectly fine with using social intimidation to suppress acknowledgement of empirical reality...;-D...
