When i was doing booze one time i was hypothesized by the sun, i stared directly at for a couple of minutes and it didn't seem to bother my eyes. No resulting damage done anyway.
Only when it is on the horizon. Years ago, I was looking at it and saw the planet Mercury transiting. Once in a lifetime thing. I used to take my students out to observe the sun indirectly with a projection from a telescope we had. I would show them sunspots.
