    Untouchable.  Cannot be around them or they might bring you to their level.

    That is my guess anyway.

    It sounds despicably horrible to me. A vile way to put people down. Calling them "unclean". Thank you for your reply m2c.     Actually the untouchables are a non-caste group whom the rest may not touch or associate with. The caste system is slowly giving way to a more progressive society, particularly in the cities (more than a few of my work colleagues are from India).
    It was officially abolished in 1950, but still affects some parts of society, mainly in rural areas where traditions are more cherished.
