What was the last thing anyone shouted to you, and why was a normal speaking voice not used?

*I went to a mobile blood bank to make a donation. It was set up in a parking lot next to retail stores and adjacent to a busy boulevard. The engine of the bloodmobile was running to generate power for all of their equipment and air conditioners.  The registration desk was on the sidewalk about ten feet away from the noisy engine, so the only way to be heard was the technician had to shout the screening questions. I thought it was extremely ill-planned.

The bartender asking me what I wanted to drink. The music was too loud to hear oneself think.

I think she means the person was shouting because they were drinking.

That’s possible. It’s also possible that the person shouted that word to her. Being a two-part question, a single-word answer only causes confusion.

(Just between the two of us, I think she likes to confuse me, likes to keep me guessing. Shhhh, don’t tell her I said that; it could go kind of badly.  Mum’s the word.)

Alcohol speaks for itself.  Just the word "Alcohol" carries with it sad stories of ruined lives and impaired drivers killing whole families.  I hate, hate alcohol and what it does to people.

Alcohol was the reason the person shouted.  What they said makes no difference.  Under the influence of alcohol it's all the same horrible things.

Why did she have to shout; are you ignoring her again?

I'm upstairs and far enough away she needs to shout.

I think it was my niece shouting "Auntie", when I arrived at her house for a visit a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen her since September and she was pretty excited to see me and vice versa. (I shouted her name, too!)
