Many of the whites who were lynched were against slavery. Some of those who were lynched were women. I don't know if children were lynched too but I suspect entire families might have been targets of racists /KKK folks.  Of course racists still exist today and are out of the closet and about. They label themselves proudly and band together and  vote for the person(s) who best represent their ideals.  Some say we've come a long way baby. I say look closer. How much has really changed?

    How much has really changed?

Could a black man be president in 1968? In regards to lynchings, they still happen, to blacks and whites. Just about a week ago, a white student at the school I go to was beaten and robbed in the middle of the street by a group of black men. Unfortunately, targeting someone for being different and ganging up on them is human nature, regardless of color. This post was edited by Paynuts at October 23, 2016 11:08 AM MDT

A black woman, Shirley Chisolm I believe ran for prez. I don't remember when. There was a Texas Pol  named Barbara Jordan who was an amazing woman. Don't believe she ever ran for prez but if she had I would have voted for her.  How has racism/ bigotry changed Pay? Now we have the ALT RIGHT WHITES,white supremacists, skinheads, white nationalists, Breitbart  Trump supporters who are out in the open and band together  because AT LAST they have a soulmate running for prez...Donald J. Trump. Having had  Barack Obama as prez for 8 years has changed nothing. The haters are stilll the haters but they are no longer hiding in the shadows. They are out and about and proud to support Donald J. Trump. He is their guy. Long  ago racists hid under white sheets. Now? They walk about unfettered and unapologetic. What a disgrace. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday! :)

  • Slavery did not exist between 1882 and 1968. Crimes of humanity against humanity, have been here as long as mankind. As long as human nature continues, it will never cease. Your efforts to narrow these things down and attribute them to only certain people, in certain places and particular political persuasions doesn't hold water. Bigotry and persecution are as old as scriptures and as widespread as the globe. These things were not born here, they are a carry over from thousands of years of civilization.
