What happens if I accept a Friend Request?

I've received some Friend Requests.  I've declined the Friend Requests because I don't know what happens if I accept a Friend Request.  Does accepting a Friend Request allow the requestor to view everything on my profile, or what?  Thanks for your answers!

      One of many reasons:
       If and when you want the ability to send and receive private messages to and from other members, they must be on your list of friends in order to do so.

    Hi RJ. I would send you a friend request if you wanted to message, but I am not worried about it. Otherwise I don't feel it does much else, except we show on a friends list on our profiles. I do come here on occasion. However I do want to tell you that I like some of the questions you ask. :)

    I believe if you accept a friend request, they can see everything on your profile unless you make it private in your settings.  That way, you can message back and forth with friends, but no personal info is available.

    As others have said it makes it possible for you to send a message to a user. 
    And someone users have the profile set to private. You cannot view their profile or activity on it unless you are friends.
