Do you do/say what's expedient or what's honorable? Do you go along to get along so you don't make waves? Why?

I try to bring what is appropriate to the situation.
That often means being silent and listening a lot until I understand as much of the full situation as possible.
I do not believe it is necessary to sacrifice one for the other: there are usually one or more solutions which are both practical and honourable.
