It is still being called "SEARCH AND RESCUE". After 5 days what are the odds that anyone is still alive?

I believe it is 8 days without water.
Of course, heat and activity affect that time line.

I'd imagine the water pipes burst during the collapse, not to mention any water storage, so it's possible some survivor may have access to water.

Thank you for your reply Walt. As usual you brought up something that never even occurred to me. Broken water pipes. So maybe it's possible. I cannot imagine the agony the loved ones of those 150 or so who are missing are going through. I mean on top of everything else going on that had to happen? :(

It's being called search and rescue because that's what it is. What are the odds? We're talking about human lives here not betting on a horse.

Would the tone of your response have been less critical if she had used the words "what are the chances" rather odds?  We are all aware that human lives are at stake here.  No one, including the poster, is trivializing that. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at June 29, 2021 2:53 AM MDT

I think some rescuer that was in Haiti said they found one woman after 13 days, so I suppose it's possible that they may find survivors, but the likelihood becomes less with each passing day.

I didn't think anyone could survive that long without water L. I think that was a miracle but I do believe in miracles so fingers crossed. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday to thee and thine! Did you hear that in Canada it got up to 118 and also in our Pacific Northwest on Monday? We just had a puny 107. I wonder how high the highs will go? Scary thought. :(

Well, they have been fighting some fires, so there may be water available in some pockets which would increase someone's chances of survival.  We hit the low 90s yesterday - same for today.  Honestly, I think that once you hit a certain high temperature and you're uncomfortable, another few degrees doesn't make much difference.  It's vey scary, especially since there's also the  drought conditions to worry about.

I know.  Hard to believe there are people who don't believe in climate change.

You know what sweetie what would it take? I mean records are being broken constantly. Fires and drought seem to be getting worse. Some areas have flooding which seems to be getting worse. What other signs that something not GOOD is going on do they need? Thank you for your reply L! :) This post was edited by RosieG at June 29, 2021 8:11 AM MDT

I don't know what it would take for them to see the light.  The fact is that climate is constantly changing, but over millennia.  The problem is that too much of that change in such a short period of time is man made.  That is what they don't want to believe.

They lack two essentials. Caring and foresight. How do we FIX THAT? We can't so we're stuck I guess. Thank you for your reply L. I shall ask. :)

I'm not sure we can fix that.  By the time these folks realize that so much has gone wrong, it may well be too late to "fix" anything.

I'm not sure what the odds are but I figure they would go up if a traped person hears the rescuers because it would give them a sence of hope and strengh. Cheers!

I wonder how much of an effect that would have on keeping folks alive Nanoose? BELIEF that rescue is at hand? If you give up believing that do you simply let go and die? How exactly does that work? I shall ask but I have no idea. Thank you for your reply Nanoose and Happy Monday to you and yours. :)
