Perhaps California should look into where some of their water is going before they ask for more from other states. Bad management of pretty much everything has plagued California for years. You might find this interesting.

Thanks for a very interesting article.  On the face, you would think that stopping this practice while CA is in a dire drought situation is the answer, but it's way more complicated.  Having said that, $70 an acre for water usage is far too low and any contract made and signed in the 1800s should be seriously reviewed and revised.

You're welcome. It usually is more complicated. I wasn't saying it was the entire answer but it couldn't hurt to put a stop to it. I know about antiquated laws. We have them here in Michigan as well. Some of them either make you scratch your head while uttering a "you've got to be kidding" or do a facepalm.

Should the surrounding states give up some of their water supply for California? I  can't answer that question. Only they can answer that question. I'm sure they have their own set of problems. That being said, although I don't like how California is run nor do I like who runs it, if I was in a state that had water enough to help California, I would do it.

I'm happy to know that you're open-minded enough to see the pros and cons of this issue and that you would help your fellow citizens, if possible.  If the drought continues in the west, some compromise will have to be made, especially since so much water is being used to fight wildfires.
