Politics is brutal. They will turn on those of their own party if they feel they can get what they want or to keep themselves in office. The bottom line is, our country is no longer governed “by the people for the people”. It is governed by the powerful for the powerful. The only thing “the people” are allowed to do is vote and pay taxes.

Once we vote we are no longer considered until the next election vote is needed. And hardly anything “we the people” want to be done in government is done once the politician has our vote. Corruption runs deep in the political world and both political parties partake of it. Those who haven't succumbed to corruption are fewer in number than those who have.

Can't disagree with any of your comments.  One of the worst things that has caused this to happen is campaign financing.  Once corporations were considered "persons" and permitted to contribute to political coffers, we the people lost all control of government.  Lack of term limits is another issue that keeps us from the changing of the guard.  The Founding Fathers never meant for a person to be in office for most of their entire working life.  I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be better able to run this country, or even their little corner of it, than those who are currently in office for decades.

An easy thing to say as hindsight is, you know, 20/20.
