    I almost jumped out of my skin. My wife talks very loudly and when she is close to me I will jump when she uses her sharp voice. Actually, I react that way to all sharp noises. It is actually an mental ailment called hyperacusis.

    Correct. She just says "You should be used to it by now." It doesn't work that way.

    When my nephew comes to visit, he is also a loud talker. Sometimes I have to leave the room when the two of them are chatting. , but he usually apologizes.
