As a young sailor, I found out my wife had been screwing around with my boss and another woman. I forgave her.

That reminds me of one way I can also answer my own question.

As a young Marine, when I received my first set of orders to go overseas approximately 11 months after joining the Corps, someone back home said I was likely the type who would come back to the US with a foreign bride. I dismissed the idea completely, at that point in my life, I wasn’t even thinking about women from foreign countries, much less considering marrying one. While it didn’t happen on or immediately after that first 6-month deployment, eventually it was exactly what I did after my third 6-month overseas tour.

Er, um, that’s not what the question means.
