New study shows ivermectin reduces infection and mortality. Will we follow the science?

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/356962821_Ivermectin_prophylaxis_used_for_COVID-19_reduces_COVID-19_infection_and_mortality_rates_A_220517-subject_populational-level_retrospective_citywide

Results: A total of 220,517 subjects were included in the analysis; 133,051 (60.3%) ivermectin users and 87,466 (39.7%) non-users. COVID-19 infection occurred in 4,311 (3.2%) treated subjects, and 3,034 (3.5%) non-treated subjects. This evidence showed a 7% reduction in COVID-19 infection rate with use of ivermectin: COVID-19 infection rate ratio (Risk ratio (RR) of 0.93; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.89 – 0.98; p = 0.003). A total of 62 deaths (1.4% mortality rate) occurred among users and 79 deaths (2.6% mortality rate) among non-users, showing a 48% reduction in mortality rate (RR, 0,52; 95%CI, 0.37 – 0.72; p = 0.0001). Risk of dying from COVID-19 among ivermectin users was 45% lower than non-users (RR, 0.55; 95%CI, 0.40 – 0.77; p = 0.0004).

Gimme a prescription for an adult dosage for an over 70 aged male because I am willing to try it but however it is not legal in Canada at this time.

Dose used for this study: ivermectin was offered as an optional treatment for 2 days every 15 days at a dose of 0.2mg/kg/day.

I do not know if this would help in Canada.  Likely have to use a overseas pharmacy.  (Not sure I how much I would trust one of those)

If ivermectin is so effective at preventing/treating Covid 19, how is it that 601,011 people have died from COVID-19 in Brazil, with over 21.5 million cases total?

Obviously, everyone in the country was not taking it as a regular prophylaxis.  And there is no claim that it prevents all infection but in this study, it did reduce the infection rate by 7%...not 100%. And the risk of dying by 45% again not 100%.

People don't take it as a regular prophylaxis because it's meant for animals.

    EDIT:

"Keith Smith, whose wife had gone to court to have his COVID-19 infection treated with ivermectin, died Sunday evening, a week after he received his first dose of the controversial drug.

    He was 52.

    ***
He received two doses before Keith’s condition grew worse, and the doctor halted the treatment."

    So is penicillin...for animals.

Most medicines are used on both people and animals.  Just in different doses.

It is used for humans. It is on the WHO's list of safe and essential medications.  It is used for parasites and antiviral applications.

Dr Nu in Chicago on the vent court order for ivermectin on Nov 5....he was home for Thanksgiving.   We can go back and forth if you want....
No one claims it is 100%. The shots do not even try to claim they are 100%.

Neither the FDA nor the CDC nor the same type government agencies in Canada and Europe have approved ivermectin for treatment of Covid-19.  That's good enough reason for me not to think it should be used for that purpose.

"Mar 31, 2021 — The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday recommended against using generic anti-parasite drug ivermectin in patients with COVID-19..."

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ivermectin-idINKBN2BN2HH

WHO has it on their essential medications list for treating parasites in animals, not for treating humans with Covid-19.

The WHO's list for essential medicines for PEOPLE.
It is being tested for Covid.  It is used for Dengue and HIV treatments since 2012. It prevents the replication of the viruses.

Apparently, you missed this part of my comment:

And you seem to miss the point that it is being used to treat viruses now.  And being tested for Covid treatment and prevention now.

You seem not to understand the difference between being tested and being recommended.

AGAIN it has been used to treat VIRUSES since 2012.

CDC/WHO/FDA etc cannot recommend because if there is a treatment all of the Emergency Use Orders will become void. And Big Pharma cannot have that...too much money to be made.

Hmmm ... 7% reduction is what Pfizer got among their users receiving a placebo, during their PAXLOVID pill testing.

Will we follow the science? This article explains how and why science may not be reliable in many areas, far too many findings are worthless:
    New Scientist and other websites.
    Google..

Stuart Ritchie interview; a deep rot is turning science into fiction
