If you are planning any changes to your house would you check with your insurance company make sure change will not affect your coverage?

Eg. Your house may not be insurable if you make a roof garden.

    No, bureaucracy first! I would need to check with the City of New York's Department of Buildings and Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development (HPD) to see if building permits are needed and if what I want to do is allowed under the Certificate of Occupancy.
