    You never should refrigerate tomatoes it will change the flavor in a negative way.

    not if they are whole.
    if I use a half of one
    will refrigerate the unused portion
    in a container with a lid.

    Never.  It takes away from the flavor.  It never comes back either.  I don't know why.  Just don't do that.  Martha Stewart says not to.  If Martha says no then I obey.  She is the Goddess of Food.

    Yes, the heat rots them away if not.
