77 Squadron decorated itself in glory in New Guinea. initially they flew Kittyhawks, then Spitfires, and finished the war flying P-51 Mustangs. My grandfather was in an Ack-Ack crew in Darwin when the Japanese attacked, he claims their crew downed two aircraft but neither was confirmed.
